This Sterling Silver Wampum squash blossom is awesome! This style of necklace was first done in the western states and it was historically done with turquoise. We have created a contemporary look replacing the turquoise stone with wampum shell.
Each piece of Wampum shell is cut and shaped by hand through multiple steps of lapidary skills. This necklace has 10 side blossoms and 15 pieces of wampum total. Each shell is surrounded by a frame constructed of triangle wire. It is individually created using a jeweler's saw. This necklace is cleaned and polished on a traditional buffing wheel machine. The Very high polish on the silver that shows off the true craftsmanship of the artist. This time consuming attention to detail results very high quality, making this necklace perfect for your collection or everyday wear.

Historically the Wampum shell has always been popular in the North East and mid Eastern states. Eastern Coastal Nations used it as a form of trade/currency. A popular use for Wampum bead is its use in treaty belts. Historically the darker the purple, the more the shell was worth.
